Find Serenity In Slowing Down

GReetingS FROM THE SUNSHINE STAte!

It’s hot here, I mean really hot. Record crushing heat is blasting us with no clear end in sight. While the summer months can often bring a slowdown in business activity as customers go on vacation, it also brings with it a sense of relaxation, adventure and enjoyment. It feels wonderful to step away from work for a moment and shift the focus of this month’s newsletter to igniting your creativity and pursuing goals outside of work. Summer is a time to foster a creative environment and mindset that promotes innovation and fresh perspective. I decided to work on some projects I’ve been unable to complete during the busy season. In doing so, I was quickly reminded of how much fun these activities can be and how letting go of things that no longer serve my needs or aesthetic preferences. This practice also makes room for new ideas and inspiration.

Recently, I spent time organizing cabinets and my closet and upgrading my wardrobe. It’s become clear to me that my relationship with certain colors, styles and architectural shapes has evolved. I’ve gained more clarity about what looks good and feels good to me at this particular moment in time. I’ve elevated my wardrobe to include more lightweight, colorful and structured styles that are very different from my NYC mindset where anything black was the staple.  I donated bags of clothing to a nearby hospice center with hopes that someone will find enjoyment in that which no longer works for me. I gifted two rugs and throw pillows to my neighbor who graciously accepted them and I gave my sister some beautiful home goods that match the aesthetic of her new apartment in Florida. It felt good to release what no longer brings joy while feeling more expansive and in flow with my current creative expression.

I had a chance to channel my creativity as a colorist in a new medium by upgrading inexpensive wall art that I liked but never really loved. With a quick visit to Michael’s Art Supply I bought some acrylic paint, 3D texture paste and decorative foil art. I painted bright colors over the existing image and added texture and sparkle to the canvas. It's so interesting how what we do outside of work can inspire us to be more creative at work. I’ve discovered that I'm capable of creating more innovative color formulations and my cutting approach has become even more expansive with a new elevated perspective.

Everything in my life flows more easily when I’m in this creative zone! In fact, as I’m writing this newsletter I received a voicemail from a very successful industry colleague (an icon in the curl space!). What is so interesting is that I’ve been manifesting working with this company for over a year now! You just can’t make this stuff up! They became successful rather quickly and are rapidly expanding. What they need is some guidance and direction in order to scale while clarifying their vision as a brand. I'm excited to collaborate with this team of professionals!

It’s been a wonderful month. I am bursting with new ideas and always thinking about how I might inspire you to unleash your fullest potential.

EXPANDING CREATIVITY FOR PERSONAL GROWTH

Creativity is a skill that can be nurtured and developed and can inspire us to discover new ideas and connections. If you want to  create an environment that sparks your imagination, it's important to  keep your creativity flowing which is essential for anyone engaged in artistic pursuits. A consistent creative practice is also crucial and seeking feedback from trusted peers and mentor figures can provide valuable insights and spark new perspectives.

By cultivating these habits, we empower ourselves to keep the flame of creativity burning bright:

✅ Cultivate Curiosity: Maintain a thirst for knowledge. Ask questions, explore new topics, and seek out different perspectives.

✅ Engage in Diverse Activities: New experiences expose you to different stimuli, which can spark creative thinking and personal growth.

✅ Surround Yourself with Inspiration: Participate in things or hobbies that you love such as reading books, artwork, music, or nature.

✅ Embrace Playfulness: Don't be afraid to engage in activities that encourage free thinking and exploration, such as doodling, improvisation, or brainstorming sessions.

✅ Break Routines: Try new approaches or habits that allow you to step out of your comfort zone. This can lead to fresh perspectives and novel ideas.

✅ Collaborate with Others:  Interacting with diverse individuals with different areas of expert skills can introduce you to new ideas and stimulate creativity.

✅ Set Aside Time for Creativity:  Whether it's writing, painting, or experimenting with a new hobby, scheduling time for creativity ensures you make it a regular part of your life.

✅ Rest and Recharge: Overworking can stifle creativity. Taking breaks helps you come back to your creative endeavors with renewed energy and fresh perspectives.
