Follow Your Own Yellow Brick Road

I’m pretty certain that most of you reading this post have watched The Wizard Of Oz, not once, not twice, but like me, several times.

The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum, more than 100 years ago, carries several themes and messages that are timeless. Each character in the movie initially looks outside themselves for answers to their problems only to discover that they already have what it takes to succeed. The theme that resonates most for me, and perhaps my biggest LEARN throughout the years) is self sufficiency, a sense of fundamental wholeness and a deep- rooted sense of stability. While I am in full support of seeking outside guidance for myself as much as I enjoy working with others as a coach and teacher, at the end of the day, “there’s no place like home.”  You already have the talent and ability to access the beauty and wisdom inside of you at any given time!

Here are some of my key takeaways from this film that I believe apply to who we are and what we are here to accomplish:

✅ You hold the power to achieve your goals.

Look within yourself and pull out the strength, courage and intelligence that’s been with you all along.

✅  You’ve always known which road is best.

Trust your gut, take risks and learn the important lessons along the way in order to reach your desired outcome. You are on a golden path to find yourself, your calling and your destiny.

✅ The ruby slippers are the key to your full potential.

The slippers cannot be removed by the wicked witch because the power belongs to Dorothy. Before she can harness such power, she would need to understand that such power already exists within her.  The slippers symbolize an extension of our true selves and the power within us that has yet to be discovered. Only then, are we able to choose how to hold it, mold it and expand it.

✅ Develop your own brain, heart and courage.

Find the way to seek happiness and fulfillment in your life and work and discover your true self just as the scarecrow, tinman and lion did. Your life is your story of self-discovery.

✅ The great and powerful Oz is within YOU.

As Glenda the good witch says, “you always had the power my dear. You just had to learn it for yourself.”

What do you think is the most powerful message conveyed by the story Wizard of Oz?
