Welcome Aboard Flight 2022
Dear Beauty Pro,
Like many of you, I spent the past few weeks on vacation, taking a break from life and reconnecting with myself, my vision and my goals for 2022.
One tool that helped me gain clarity during this unplugged vacation was Deepak Chopra’s guided meditation, 21 DAYS OF ABUNDANCE. I was finally able to hit the PAUSE button and recharge.
WINS & LEARNS
I’d be remiss if I didn’t share both the setbacks (Learns) and triumphs (Wins) of 2021.
There were some moments in my career where I felt defeated, especially in 2019.
Before the pandemic, I have always been a big in-person gal - connection face to face is unparalleled, at least for me. But when the world shut down I wondered, “How can I continue to hep beauty pros without in person training?? This feels like such a roadblock for our industry.” I felt defeated because I didn’t have a Plan B in place. ( Big Learn! )
And then it hit me!
I knew that a virtual program was the only way to pursue my love of teaching and continue championing our community with the skills we as Beauty Pros need in order to be successful. By incorporating the knowledge, experience and insight I’ve gathered over the past 35 years, I was confident that I could create an innovative program that would offer beauty pros the tools and skills that are critical to delivering remarkable (and repeatable) client experiences beyond just the service itself. .
SUCCESS!
In October, 2021, I launched THE BEAUTY SCHOOL SEQUEL a comprehensive online 4 week course that teaches beauty pros how to build their book and boost their business by incorporating the two sciences (1) cosmetology and (2) psychology. Enrollment was a success! Students learned new tools along with a new approach to maintaining a loyal and long-lasting clientele. They left the program with an elevated level of expertise and enthusiasm.
It was risk for me. And, it was a risk for each student who enrolled.
But, it was a WIN for all.
Investing in yourself and your own development never feels easy. It’s a decision that requires expansion and the desire to grow, both mentally and emotionally.
You should know that my decision to pivot into the world of online learning also came with some setbacks that I didn’t expect, and I believe that it’s important to share them with you.
There's a brutal truth in life that I haven’t wanted to accept this past year which has been my big LEARN for 2021.
I worked hard to create and launch my program because I believed that other beauty pros needed and wanted a program that could help enhance their performance and uncover what other
aspects of their business they could be optimizing beyond learning new technical skills. Skills that help shift our existing mindset with methodologies that simply weren't taught in beauty school,
And while many saw value in what I was offering and enrolled, others did not. OUCH!
I’ve tried to resist this truth but ultimately, it is a waste of time and energy.
Here is what I learned:
👉 I have no control over many of the things that happen in life.
👉 I had to come to terms with the fact that what I offer is not for everyone.
👉 I had a plan about the way I wanted things to happen in my career and life, but they don’t always go the way I think they should go.
It is so easy to question many of the things I’ve done, risks that I’ve taken, or haven’t taken. But that mindset only makes things worse.
And, I am quickly reminded that the universe has a plan, lessons are learned and new opportunities surface when we are ready for them.
When I look back and think about what it took to get to here, it all makes sense
GOALS FOR 2022:
👉Determine what I can control.
Recognize that sometimes, all I can control is my effort and attitude.
👉Focus on my influence.
I can influence people and circumstances, but I just can't force things to go my way.
👉Identify my fears.
Usually, the worst case scenario isn't as tragic as I think it is in the moment and that I have the skills to handle the worst case scenario.
👉Create an action plan to manage my stress.
Exercising, eating healthy, and getting plenty of sleep are just a few key things I do to take care of myself. But I have to make more time to manage my stress so that I can operate more efficiently.
👉Cultivate healthy affirmations.
When I find myself thinking about something I have no control over, I must remember to tell myself I can handle it. This will keep me from wasting my time on things I can't control.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR 2022?
As you begin to put your goals into action, ask yourself what you should be doing to advance to the next level and take your business up a notch. I realize that this is a decision that requires expansion and growth -both mentally and emotionally. But the thing is that you are always one step away from impacting you career and life.
The programs that live inside House Of Harbinger are transformative and expansive - they will impact the way you approach your professional and personal life in 2022 + beyond.
I still love traveling to meet students and clients in person but virtual training has brought a community of beauty pros together with similar wants, needs and challenges. And, students have told me that my lessons have already helped them by expanding their knowledge base and skills with concepts and tools that have allowed them to be more passionate and profitable.
Whether you’re a stylist, colorist, salon owner or team of industry pros, I’m excited to help you achieve an organized, inspired and engaging experience for the modern salon client. I invite you to participate, learn, elevate your expertise and then back it up with meaningful actions.
