Hey Beauty Pro,
It’s been a minute - I know.
I’ve spent the last few months adding the finishing touches to my online program - with you in mind! And I can’t wait to share this accomplishment in the coming weeks. Each lesson is loaded with concepts and tools that span across 4 key areas to help you boost your business as a beauty pro.
You’ll be the first to hear about the official launch date— promise!
But, today I want to talk about the importance of a skill I believe every beauty pro needs in order to succeed in our constantly evolving industry,
💪 WORKPLACE AGILITY
Over the years I've learned that aligning your head and body in order to increase performance and productivity can be incredibly important as a beauty pro and, so much of what you do requires a combination of mental and physical agility.
Let Me Explain.
As a beauty pro, you are constantly multi-tasking, and standing most of the day while engaging with clients and colleagues. You head over to the front desk to check on your clients, pricing and scheduling numerous times throughout the day. Then, you might hit the color room or the staff lounge before heading back to your chair or the backbar area. It can be exhausting and overwhelming. You are always thinking, moving and strategizing about the next haircut, color or styling service. And, if you are like me, you are always trying to plan ahead and think of ways to get it all done more efficiently so you still have energy left to socialize at the end of the work day.
All of these actions require a combination of mental and physical agility.
If you've ever felt a sense of temporary mental or physical paralysis at work, perhaps it’s because you simply haven’t conditioned your mind and body to be able to express your full capabilities, no matter the circumstance.
Here are some good reasons to prepare yourself mentally and physically for the work that you do.
✅ Physical activity has been proven to increase brain flexibility and adaptability.
✅ There have been numerous studies which have proven that physical activity can slow down the onset of neurodegenerative diseases.
✅ Physical activity challenges your mind and body.
✅ Physical and mental agility don’t just affect our body in an isolated way, they affect how you look at and respond to all events in work and life.
✅ Physical agility improves mindfulness, coordination and adaptability, which translates to higher attention skills than sedentary people.
So what can you do to enhance your mental and physical agility?
🔎 Be in a learning mindset as often as possible, whether it’s something physical or something cerebral.
🔎 Move your body. It doesn’t matter what sport or activity.
🔎 Be creative, be curious and have fun!
As our bodies and minds mature, it’s important to keep that feeling of exhilaration and alertness alive so that we are able to sustain the connection between the two. You might surprise yourself at what you are truly capable of!
